Aron Wright - July 3, 2018

St Joseph’s vs B36 Torshavn
UEFA Europa League Preliminary Round 2018/19
Date: Thursday, 5 July 2018
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar.

St. Joseph’s managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the preliminary Europa League tie against B36.

The Faroese outfit dominated the pitch from the very first whistle, but they were unlucky to concede the equalizer from the penalty spot, failing to regain the lead in the entire second half.

Overall, it was a very nervous affair which saw as many as seven players get booked in Torshavn.

It only describes how important the progress to the first qualifying round would be for both sides.

St. Joseph’s, who came third at the end of the season in the top flight of the Gibraltarian football last term, has a scarce European experience.

They only made the Europa League debut last year and it saw the team suffer a demolishing 0-10 on aggregate elimination to Cypriot AEL.

The goal Salvador Boro scored from the spot seven days ago in Torshavn was their first ever in this competition.

St Joseph’s vs B36 Torshavn: Head-to-head

The two sides did not have the chance to take on each other before the first leg played seven days ago at Gundadalur.

Even though the Faroese team controlled the game, it ended up in a 1-1 draw as both goals were scored from penalties.

B36 had as many as 17 shots on goal, while the Gibraltarian outfit made no more than four attempts, a single on target.

St Joseph’s vs B36 Torshavn Prediction

B36 have a much greater European experience and they are the side with more quality in their ranks without doubts.

Interestingly, they did not concede two or more goals in any of last nine Europa League matches even though they’ve played the likes of Brondby in the process (back in 2008).

Knowing that St. Joseph’s had only one shot on target (from the penalty spot) in the first match in Torshavn, we fancy the visitors not to concede at the odds of 2.30 here.

The away win also looks quite tempting at 1.95 given the gulf in quality between the two rivals is notable.
