Spartak Trnava vs Legia Warsaw
UEFA Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 31 July 2018
Kick-Off at 19:30 UK / 20:30 CET
Venue: City Arena Trnava, Trnava.
Spartak Trnava look to be enjoying their debut season in the Champions League. The first-time Slovakian champions went past Bosnian Zrinjski 2-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and they are on the brink of eliminating Polish giants Legia Warsaw to earn a third-round tie.
Spartak brought a massive two-goal cushion from the first leg played six days ago in the Polish capital.
Legia controlld the ball and dominated the pitch, but failed in the build-up play moving forward. The team led by the Croatian manager Dean Klafuric could not create a decent goal-scoring chance in the game in spite of the mentioned domination and they were brutally punished for going all out attacking in the third minute of the stoppage time when Jan Vlasko doubled Trnava’s lead to set the final score.
Spartak Trnava vs Legia Warsaw: Head-to-head
This will only be the second head to head encounter between the two teams.
As mentioned above, Spartak Trnava claimed a shocking 0-2 victory away in Warsaw thanks to goals from Erik Grendel and Jan Vlasko.
Spartak Trnava vs Legia Warsaw: Prediction
Legia have huge troubles with consistency as their form usually hits massive stumbling blocks from one season to another. They were nowhere near the title challenge in the previous term of Polish Ekstraklasa, but a super strong finish to the campaign saw them reach the very top of the standing, finishing three points off Jagiellonia Bialystok.
Such variables are applied in continental competitions as well. Legia played the Champions League group phase two years ago only to fail to Kazakhstan outfit Astana in last year’s qualifications. They stormed past Irish champions Cork City 4-0 in the first qualifying round this year. Legia definitely have the quality to pass Spartak Trnava, but they will have a super tough task knowing that the Slovakian outfit is generally very tough to break down.
Klafuric’s side raised the spirits ahead of the trip to Trnava by beating Korona Kielce in the second round of Polish Ekstraklasa on Saturday. We’ll go for the away win at 2.15. The alternative bet will be Under 2.5 goals FT as we expect the hosts to park the bus from the very start of the game.
