UEFA Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 21st November 2017
Kick-off at 17:00 UK/ 18:00 CET
Venue: Otkrytiye Arena (Moscow).

Spartak Moscow are heavy favourites against Maribor in a must win game for both sides.

The Russians are sitting third in the Group E, three points adrift of Liverpool and 2 points behind Sevilla. A win on Tuesday will put them in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage, anything else will depend on the outcome of Sevilla versus Liverpool clash.

Maribor managed just one point so far from their four games and will be knocked out of the competition if they lose win. With a win, they could remain in contention for knockout qualification only if Sevilla lose to Liverpool.

Spartak’s unbeaten run in the competition came to end at Seville with a 2-1 loss last time, before the 5-1 crushing win over the same opponent and back-to-back draws against Liverpool and Maribor.

Meantime, Maribor lost three on the bounce since opening the group stage campaign with the 1-1 draw against the Russians. The two away games during the period saw 0-3 defeats to Sevilla and Liverpool. Adding the humiliating 0-7 home defeat to Liverpool to it, they have not conceded 13 goals without scoring.

Spartak Moscow vs Maribor: Head-to-head

The reverse leg of the corresponding fixture is the lone meeting between the two sides and Spartak’s first against a Slovenian club.

Maribor are without a win against Russian clubs. Their previous duel came against Rubin Kazan in the 2013/14 Europa League. They lost the home leg by a heavy 2-5 margin before restoring some pride with a 1-1 stalemate in Russian soil.

Spartak Moscow vs Maribor: Predictions

The Russians are a team in form and have lost just one of their last 16 matches in all competitions. However, only 8 of those are wins, something they must improve on.

Maribor’s domestic form is just fine and they are unbeaten in 16 games this season. But they had so far fail to transform this to European nights. Also, they hold a poor record in away nights and had lost three on the bounce including the qualifying round fixture away at Hapoel Beer Sheva.

This is expected to be a tight one, but the Russian outfit do have the fire-power to bag all three points.

Spartak Moscow vs Maribor: Bet Tips
