SPAL vs Parma
2018/19 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday 26 August 2018
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Paolo Mazza (Ferrara).
Although Parma avoided a loss in their opening match, which was their first Serie A game in several seasons, the Crociati will be still disappointed that they threw away a 2-0 advantage against Udinese. Next up for them will be a clash against SPAL, a team who were promoted to Serie A last season after a 50 year absence.
SPAL earned a win on matchday one against Bologna, which really boosts their survival chances. The hosts narrowly escaped the drop, and will be desperate to stay in Serie A, but the arrival of Parma and how solid Empoli were in Serie B will make SPAL quite uncomfortable this term.
Although SPAL were strong against the teams who were relegated and pulled off some strong results, including a scoreless draw against Juventus, they were truly fortunate to avoid the drop and unless if they dramatically improve this season they may not be as fortunate this time around.
Parma meanwhile suffered financial troubles which forced them back down to Serie D, but it was their football which helped them quickly rise back up the ranks.
Their performance initially against Udinese was quite impressive, but the way they capitulated quickly to allow the Zebrette back into the game shows they have a lot of work to do to adjust to being back on the bigger stage.

SPAL vs Parma: Prediction
Parma looked encouraging against Udinese for the first 60 minutes or so, but then they crumbled. That shows that they still have a lot of work to do.
However, Roberto Inglese, who’s signed on loan for Napoli looks especially promising for the Crociati and could be a real revelation for his new side, and given SPAL’s leaky defense last season, those problems will likely continue this term.
Parma had no problems scoring in general, especially to teams who weren’t in the top six in Serie B, so backing both teams to score here is a solid pick.
Still, SPAL did earn a victory on matchday one and Parma haven’t sorted themselves out just yet in playing in the top flight, so the hosts could cause them some problems here as they have a full season of top flight football under their belts.
