SPAL vs Benevento
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 6 May 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Paolo Mazza (Ferrara).
Oddly enough, Benevento have been already relegated, but they aren’t acting like it. Since being dropped, they have picked up four points. Le Streghe finally earned their first away win by beating AC Milan 1-0, but it was all in vain. They then managed to draw Udinese 3-3. Now, they will take on SPAL, and they will certainly hope to drag their hosts back down into the relegation battle and pick up another away win in the process.
SPAL will be desperate not to allow that to happen. At this point they are out of the drop zone, but only barely. They sit in 17th spot, just one point ahead of 18th placed Chievo, so if they fail to get anything out of this game, they could be back in the drop zone. A draw would certainly help them, but they obviously will want better than just that.
The problem for SPAL is they have been managing to grind out some draws, but they haven’t been picking up enough points and they now are in some serious trouble. With Chievo taking on Crotone, the Flying Donkeys will be equally desperate for results so SPAL will be very wary coming into this clash as well.
Benevento may have managed a clean sheet against Milan but it’s hard to see them repeating that again. They have shipped 81 goals so far and have the worst defense in the league. Other from that, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any other away fixture this season, which should give SPAL some hope at scoring at least one goal.
Moreover, Benevento will be missing at least nine players through injuries and suspensions which could make things even more trickier for the visitors. Can SPAL take advantage of this to further enhance their chances at staying out of trouble?
SPAL vs Benevento: Head to head

SPAL vs Benevento: Prediction
SPAL find themselves in a very tricky spot, but they won’t have a better opportunity than now to help themselves out of a tough position. Overall they have a fair enough scoring record and they will need to rally themselves against a Benevento side with a very leaky back line.
Let’s not forget – SPAL did manage to shut down Juventus not too long ago at this same ground. Benevento have nothing to lose and could simply pour forward – after all, they’re already relegated and at this point could just go for it like they did against Udinese recently.
That’s something SPAL could use to their advantage as they seek to pick up a much needed win and put some distance between themselves and both Verona sides.
