Southend United vs Tranmere Rovers: Prediction
An injury-time penalty secured a point for The Blues on the road at AFC Wimbledon as they began 2020 with a 1-1 draw at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
There are noticeable improvements at Southend following an appointment of Sol Campbell but it might be too little, too late as The Seasiders sit second–to-last on League One table, fifteen points behind first team above the line.
With just three points collected at home (two of those in the last month), Southend is the most generous team when playing in front of their own fans (if there’s any left after such performances). Not a single win all year. Abysmal, just abysmal…
Tranmere Rovers are out of the FA Trophy after they were defeated 2-1 by Leicester City’s U21s at Prenton Park on Tuesday night.
FA Trophy exit means that The Rovers can focus all their attention into League One survival; not exactly a mission impossible for them since they’re only three points behind MK Dons and safety, with a game left to play. Win there and the plot thickens…
With seven points and eight defeats from eleven away games, The Whites are just above the worst of the worst, including their next opponents in there. Their games are rarely boring events, with players finding the back of either net….
I suspect we might see something in a similar fashion in this encounter. Despite what their h2h history says, I think we’re up for a spectacle. In almost all of Southend home games, goals were flying left and right, with at least four goals scored per game going back till the beginning of October. Similar can be said for The Rovers on travels though they did have few barren games back when the league was just warming up.
If you’re feeling brave, back Campbell’s side to win. With how they’ve been playing recently, it’s going to happen sooner rather than later. Why not against a side who’s nearly as bad as them and low on confidence following two huge losses during a Boxing Day and who’s just lost to Leicester’s kids?
