Southampton vs Sunderland, English Premier League, Matchday 29.
Saturday, 5th March 2016. Kickoff: 12:45 GMT
Southampton desperate to get win when they face familiar foes Sunderland at the St Marys Stadium on Saturday evening.
Southampton have now lost twice in a matter of three days, first at home to Chelsea and away to Bournemouth. This has put an end to their 6 match unbeaten run in the league and are the risk of dropping down to the bottom half of the table.
Sunderland got out of the relegation zone following the last minute wonder strike of Fabio Borini which helped them earn a priceless 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace. There is much more to do for Sam Allardyce’s men to stay clear of the zone as 18th and 19th placed team are level on 24 points like them.
Last 5 Premier League matches:
Southampton’s good form seems to have end after consecutive defeats to Chelsea and Bournemouth. They have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their previous unbeaten matches and now conceded 2 goals each in the last two. Their record in last five home matches read LWWWL and have managed at least a goal in each of them.
Sunderland have only one win in their last 7 league matches. A home win against Manchester United and away draw at Liverpool are positives during the period, but their last match against Crystal Palace was they should have won.
The Black Cats have failed to win their last three away matches, which reads L-D-L. It is also interesting to note that they have just won twice in 14 away games this season, with 10 of them being defeats. They have also conceded 2 or more goals in 6 of the last 7 away games in the league.
Southampton: Team News
Shane Long is a doubt following the knee injury he picked up in the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Tuesday night. With Charlie Austin also sidelined, Graziano Pelle could be in-line to start here.
Florin Gardos and Jay Rodriguez are injured for Ronaldo Koeman, while Victor Wanyama serves the last of his five-match ban. The Dutch boss is very likely to use a 4-2-3-1 formation after the 3-5-2 system failed to deliver results in the last two matches.
Southampton: Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1)
Forster – Bertrand, Cedric, Fonte, Dijk – Romeu, Davis – Tadic, Ward, Mane – Pelle.
Sunderland: Team News
Jan Kirchhoff, Lee Cattermole and John O’Shea suffered knocks in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace and are likely to miss here. They will join Duncan Watmore and Jeremain Lens on the sidelines.

Southampton vs Sunderland: Prediction
The clashed between the two sides are often a tightly contested one, but on current form Southampton should go in as favourites. Sunderland are extremely poor on away games this season and the Saints have notched up four straight wins at home before falling short to Chelsea. Having lost 2 in a row, this is their perfect chance to get back to winning ways.
