Slovenia vs Scotland
World Cup Qualifiers – Europe (Group F)
Date: Sunday, 8th October 2017
Kick off at 17:00 UK/ 18:00 CET
Venue: Stadion Stozice (Ljubljana).
Late goals on Thursday turned the proposition of Group F for the final matchday, otherwise would have been a thrilling finish with four teams competition for two qualification spots. Now, there is only one spot and two teams are competition for it.
Slovenia were at the receiving end as Harry Kane strike in the injury time to hand them a narrow 1-0 defeat, which has put them out of any realistic chance for qualification. Even if they beat Scotland, there are most likely to finish behind Slovakia who have the easiest of the fixtures against Malta.
Scotland on the other hand defeated a 10-men Slovakia 1-0, helped by an 89th minute own goal from Martin Skrtel. Gordon Strachan’s men have now moved to second in the table, leaving Slovakia and Slovenia behind.
Slovenia are unbeaten at home this term, with their 4 matches seeing 3 wins and a draw. The lone draw came against the strongest team in the group England (0-0). It is also worth to note that the Slovenians are yet to concede a goal in home matches.
Scotland are on the five-match unbeaten run with 4 wins and 1 draw in it. But they are more lethal at home and do not have the same prowess while playing away from home. The defeated the likes of Malta and Lithuania on the road, but fell at England and Slovakia by massive 3-0 margins.
Slovakia vs Scotland: Head-to-head
Scotland are unbeaten in the three qualifying fixtures against Slovakia with 2 wins and a draw. And the Scots are yet to concede a goal.
The reverse of the corresponding fixture was a narrow 1-0 win for the Scots.
The previous set of fixtures was for the 2006 World Cup qualification. Scotland defeated Slovakia 3-0 in the away leg at Cilje after the first leg at Glasgow ended goal-less.
Slovenia vs Scotland: Prediction
Slovenia know they are out of the qualification race and it remained to be seen if they can find some motivation for the final group game.
The momentum is very much with the Scots and their confidence will be further boosted after having got the better of the Slovenians on all previous occasions.
