Fortuna Sittard vs Vitesse: Prediction
Fortunezen were incredibly fortunate in the last round of 2019, as they held off and frustrated the hell of in-form Willem II in a 0-0 draw, scoring their first point away from home since August.
Sjors Ultee’s men are doing as well as it is expected from them, placed 13th at Eredivisie ladder with nineteen points and -19 goal difference (product of their god-awful away form), four points away from first team below the line, VVV Venlo.
Out of their nineteen points collected, all but two came when playing at their home turf as Fortunezen are rocking an amazing six-game unbeaten run in front of their own fans, scoring five consecutive victories in the process.
Dreaded five-game losing run now seems like a bad memory as Vitesse Arnhem headed into the winter break with confidence after a comfortable 3-0 win over VVV-Venlo.
New/old boss Edward Sturing is back in the Vitesse’ hot seat for his fifth stint till the end of a season and he’ll try to maintain their unbeaten run that last since the end of November, which brought Vitas up to sixth place.
On their excursions, Arnhem-based side is a personification of mixed, with four wins and a draw from nine games, though, to be fair, three out of four defeats were during their November slump…
Djibril Dianessy is only one MIA for Ultee’s side while his counterpart can’t count on Charly Musonda and Hilary Gong, who are out for the season. Eli Dasa is few weeks away from returning whilst Roy Beerens is finally back in training but is very unlikely to feature in first Vitesse game of 2020.
Fortuna’s games at home varies from ecstatic frenzy to mind-numbingly dull; depending on the opponents. Versus impotent sides like Sparta, Groningen or ADO, who have trouble scoring, it’s the latter. But against Vitesse, who’s known for running and gunning, I think it’ll be the former. An exciting game with lots of goals scored.
I’d also like to once more back Vitesse’ captain Bryan Linssen to get on the score sheets again. He’s been immense lately and, statistically, Linssen scores more on their travels. So here’s hoping he’ll come good one more time.
