Sheffield Wednesday vs QPR
EFL Championship, Season 2017/18
Date: Saturday, 12th August 2017
Kick off at 15:00 UK/16:00 CET
Sheffield Wednesday hosts QPR in the hope of putting the disappointment behind their back and putting up a strong performance for the 3 points.
The Owls failed yet another year in the play-off stage. This year they started again with aspirations for top finish but they were quickly landed in the first round. On the positive side they took a 4-1 victory over Chesterfield in the League Cup but it hardly warms their fans hearts. Hooper, Fletcher, Reach and Hutchinson notched a goal each for the victory. Forestieri was rested in that game and will be fresh for the upcoming fixture.
The first round though was a rough landing. The game was obviously going to be a tough one against Preston on the road but Wednesday were hoping to get something out of it. The team looked to lack some creativity and finishing touch. It all went from bad to worse when Preston were awarded a penalty. Johnson took his chance and opened the score just 10 minutes before the end. Sheffield just could not deal with that blow and the game ended with a minimal victory for North End.
QPR had a disastrous finish last season after which many people have put them for relegation. Still Rangers proved most people wrong and took vital 3 points in their opener. They also got a minimal victory over Northampton midweek in the League Cup fixture and will be going into this game with a lot of confidence.
QPR went to play at Loftus Road against Reading. Reading have some struggles away usually and QPR exploited that. Washington was the man of the match as he found the net behind Vito Mannone twice. He opened the score after right in the middle of the first half with a close range header close to impossible to miss. He scored his second goal after Tiago Ilori gave a penalty and saw the red card. Washington stepped in and confidently turned the penalty into a goal. Reading from there on down to 10 man and with a 2 goal disadvantage could hardly recover.
Sheffield Wednesday vs QPR: Head to head
If we look towards the most recent clashes between the sides Sheffield has a definite advantage with 3 victories and 2 draws in 5 games. But adding the next 4 games adds 3 victories for QPR and a draw to equalize the stats.
Last 2 games were both won by Wednesday with 1-0 and 2-1.
At Hillsborough The Owls have 3 victories, a draw and a defeat.
Sheffield Wednesday vs QPR: Prediction
Sheffield made Hillsborough into a fortress last year. They had 65% win ratio and conceded very little goals there. If they want to have any chances of successful campaign they need to do that again starting from Saturday. The Owls are definite favourites to win this one.
Forestieri will be fresh and hungry for goal after he was rested in the midweek fixture. Backing him to score anytime looks like a decent option.
