Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United
England – Championship
Date: Friday, 28th September 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Hillsborough (Sheffield).
Leeds United travel to take on Sheffield Wednesday after suffering their first league defeat of the season against Birmingham last week.
The Peacocks has been the team to watch this season with the celebrated Marcelo Bielsa bringing a title winning mentality to West Yorkshire.
Leeds bagged 5 wins and 3 draws from their first 8 matches of the season and remain at the top of the table. However, Middlesbrough are level on points, whereas their gap with the 7th placed team is a meagre 3 pointer.
The hosts are in firm form for sure, but don’t write-off Sheffield Wednesday as of yet. The Owls have been solid at home this season (2W, 2D) despite holding on to a humble 10th spot in overall table.
Jos Luhukay want his team to play attacking football and this is why the team scored 14 goals from 9 matches this season. I am afraid, they do not have the same kind of consistency at the back. The visitors come with a side that conceded 14 goals this season, a stat that sound music to the ears of Bielsa whose men average 2.1 goals per game this season.

- Last season, Wednesday did a double on Leeds with a 3-0 win at the Hillsborough and 2-1 win in the reverse leg.
- The previous season belonged to Leeds who bagged 2-0 away and 1-0 home wins.
- Only 1 of their last 5 h2h meetings saw both teams scoring.
- The Owls won 3 and 2 of their last 5 h2h home games against Leeds.
- Again, only 1 of those 5 saw both teams scoring.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United Prediction
This has been one of the most difficult game to predict over the past few seasons and we often saw home advantage playing no role in the full-time outcome.
Things are expected to remain the same this time as well, yet I am quite positive on Leeds United, having impressed in all department of play in the initial 2 months of the season.
While it is true that Wednesday are one of the toughest teams to beat at home, questions can be asked at their defending at times. Leeds scored 19 goals from their 9 games this season, 10 of those came from 4 away games. I can see Yorkshire boys easily penetrating the Owls defense that conceded in every home game this season.
However, Leeds could have a few problems dealing with the Owls attacking line as well and this is the main reason for me to pick both teams to score as the main bet for this fixture. I am aware that btts rarely happened in their recent h2h fixtures, but streaks and records are there to be broken.
I also believe that the sides have nothing less than three points in their mind on Friday evening. Thus, an eventful second half is on the cards even if we see a quite first half.
