Sheffield Wednesday vs Huddersfield
England – The Championship
Date: Tuesday, 17th May 2017
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Hillsborough Stadium.
It’s time for the last semifinal of the Championship play-offs. At Hillsborough Sheffield Wednesday hopes to overcome Huddersfield in close game.
The First leg – Full Time Result 0-0
The first leg finished in a goalless draw. I was expected to be like this as both teams didn’t want to expose themselves. This result suits Sheffield’s interests. They took a good result and keeping in mind that away goal rule does not apply in the play-offs the 0-0 draw is a perfect away result. Huddersfield dominated most of the game. The team controlled the tempo passing around the pitch trying to stretch Sheffield defensive line. Huddersfield had numerous attempts but most of them failed to find the target. Only 2 shots were accurate and one hit the woodwork after Isaiah Brown effort after 22 minutes into the game. Sheffield accounted themselves only with 3 shots all of them missing the target. Still the team looked well capable of deflecting the hosts efforts and more than happy with the result.
The team played on the final of the play-offs last year. The Owls will be determined to be there once again but they need to overcome Huddersfield first.
Apart from the loss to Fulham when Wednesday played with rotated squad the team finished the season in excellent form picking 6 victories in a row. They have been pretty solid at home for the whole season and their fans will be hoping that they carry this form into to play-off.
Sheffield Wednesday: Predicted Starting Line-up (4-4-2)
Carlos Carvahal will have some problems regarding his team selection. Gary Hooper and Almen Abdi will miss the game due to injuries while Marco Matias is suspended. The team will probably field in their preferred 4-4-2 formation.
Westwood – Pudil, Loovens, Lees, Hunt – Reach, Bannan, Jones, Wallace – Forestieri, Fletcher.
The Terriers will probably feel disappointed by the first game result. They were the dominant side but failed to gain advantage. Now they face a bigger challenge than at home as Sheffield are a strong host while Huddersfield had some inconsistencies away from home. They will probably play safer than in the first game and will let this time Sheffield control the game trying to hit them on the break.
Huddersfield: Predicted Starting Line-up (4-2-3-1)
David Wagner will be happy to see his first choice goalkeeper return to action after surving his suspension. Chris Lowe was forced out last game and it remains to be seen if he will be able to play full 90 minutes.
Ward – Lowe, Hefele, Schindler, Smith – Mooy, Hogg – Parra, Brown, Scannell – Wells.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Huddersfield: Head to head
The head to head clashes are looking promising for the hosts. The Owls have won 5, Huddersfield 1 and the other 4 are draws.
Sheffield are undefeated in 8 games against The Terriers.
The previous 2 games this season finished 2-0 and 1-0 in favour of Wednesday.
The last eight games between the two teams had lower goals than the 2.5 goal line.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Huddersfield: Prediction
Sheffield will try and use their home form and advantage to overcome the Terriers. Wednesday have both the means and the determination to do it. Huddersfield will have to really outperform themselves to try and spring a surprise. Sheffield are favourites to win this without any doubt.
This will probably be like the first game but this time Sheffield will dominate. The Owls will probably score a goal or two but nothing spectacular so the game will most likely be a low scoring one.
