Sevilla vs Barcelona
Spain – Super Cup
Date: Sunday, 12 August 2018
Kick-Off at 21:00 UK / 22:00 CET
Venue: Grand Stade de Tanger, Tanger.
Moroccan city of Tanger will have the honour of playing host to the Spanish Super Cup clash between Sevilla and Barcelona on Sunday evening.
The local fans will thus have the chance to enjoy the occasion of watching La Liga stars led by the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.
Barcelona, who won the domestic double in a super dominant fashion last year, will be heavy favourites to bring the Super Cup trophy back to Catalunya after losing last term’s final to Real Madrid 1-6 on aggregate.
The opposition comes in the likes of Sevilla whom they defeated 5-0 in the Copa del Rey final last year. Los Rojiblancos have already played official matches in this season given they had to feature Europa League qualifications, starting from the second round.
The new head coach Pablo Machin used a surprisingly string squad for the tie with Ujpest which saw Los Rojiblancos demolishing the Hungarian outfit 7-0 in aggregate.
He mixed up his cards for the Thursday’s home game with Lithuanian Zalgiris which instantly resulted in only a narrow 1-0 win for Sevilla at their Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Even though the result leaves the tie wide open, the Spanish outfit remain massive favourites to advance into the play-offs.
Sevilla vs Barcelona: Head-to-head
- Sevilla were hardly a match for Barcelona over the last couple of years.
- Blaugrana won eight of last nine head to head meetings with the Andalusian outfit, including the aforementioned 5-0 victory in the Copa del Rey final in late-April last year.
- Barca bagged two or more goals in all of last nine meetings with Los Rojiblancos.
Sevilla vs Barcelona: Prediction
Barcelona did not have much success at the recently-finished International Champions Cup, but we have to mention that Ernesto Valverde used basically his reserve line-up without the main stars in the competition.
Messi, Suarez, Coutinho, Dembele, Busquets, Rakitic have all joined the team and will all likely make an appearance against Los Rojiblancos. The new acquisition Arturo Vidal is injured and will not feature for the Catalans.
Even though Sevilla come into this with four wins on the bounce (friendlies and Europa League), we just can’t see them shocking Barcelona here and the main bet will be Blaugrana to win at the 1.50 odds.
You won’t make a mistake backing Barca to net two or more goals at 1.44 as they’ve done so in all of last nine encounters against Sevilla.
