Serbia vs Montenegro
UEFA Nations League
Date: Saturday, 17 November 2018
Kick-Off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Stadion Rajko Mitic (Belgrade).
A real buzz is expected in and around Stadion Rajko Mitic on Saturday afternoon when local rivals Serbia and Montenegro take on each other in the clash which could determine the group winner. The Eagles are in the best position at the moment being a single point clear off Montenegro and two above Romania with two games left to play. Furthermore, the team led by Mladen Krstajic play the rock-bottomed Lithuania in the last round clash on Tuesday.
These two likes met each other a month ago in Podgorica when Aleksandar Mitrovic guided the Serbians to a straightforward 0-2 win with a brace on the occasion. The striker won’t come into this match in particularly good mood as his Fulham lost six on the bounce in the Premier League. The Cottagers fell down at the very bottom of the league standings as a consequence. Will it affect Mitro’s display in the national team shirt?
Serbia vs Montenegro: Head-to-head
Interestingly, the aforementioned 0-2 victory for Serbia was the first ever head to head clash between the two teams ever since they became independent countries.
Serbia vs Montenegro: Prediction
The Brave Falcons returned into the contest for the very top of the standings only thanks to two wins over group underdogs Lithuania. They clearly lack attacking options to threaten more serious teams (such as Serbia). The head coach Ljubisa Tumbakovic saw his men fail to fond the back of the net in four of last six games (goals came only in two matches against Lithuania).
Given Montenegro will be without their main stars Stefan Savic and Stevan Jovetic, it’s really hard to see them coming on top at the end. Mladen Krstajic has problems with the goalkeeper position as neither Vladimir Stojkovic nor Marko Dmitrovic are available here. Serbia will also be without Lazio’s influential midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who is injured.
However, the hosts will still field a very strong squad featuring Nemanja Matic, Dusan Tadic and Aleksandar Mitrovic. The quality is on the Serbian side and we expect them to confirm the favourites tag with another clean sheet wins over neighbouring Montenegro.
