Senegal vs Mali Prediction & Match Preview

Senegal vs Mali
International Friendlies
Date: Tuesday, 26 March 2019
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor (Dakar).

Both Senegal and Mali were successful in their respective African Cup of Nations Qualification campaigns. The Lions of Teranga topped group ahead of Madagascar, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan, while the Eagles clinched the top spot above Burundi, Gabon and South Sudan.

Both sides should thus come into Tuesday’s friendly at Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor high on confidence. The match could be very entertaining with predators such as Sadio Mane and Moussa Marega set to come across each other.

Senegal are obviously favourites because of both the home court advantage and a much wider range of high-profile players in their ranks. They also have a World Cup experience behind them as Alious Cisse’s men claimed four points in three group stage matches against Poland, Japan and Colombia last summer in Russia.

Senegal vs Mali: Head-to-head

The head to head record also speaks in Senegal’s favour.

The Lions of Teranga are unbeaten in last five meetings with Mali (two wins and three draws in the process).

Interestingly, four of these five outings saw goals scored at both ends, including a 1-1 draw in the latest H2H clash played exactly five years ago (also a friendly).

Senegal vs Mali: Prediction

These two likes regularly produced goals in their head to head matches over the course of history. They will both come into this high on confidence from defensive point of view as they hardly conceded goals in the AFCON Qualifications.

We have to mention that both teams played much weaker rivals along the way, though. Senegal lost just one of past 11 friendlies (a narrow 2-1 defeat to World Cup runners-up Croatia in June last year). They kept their net untouched in five of last seven friendlies.

Mali also allowed only two goals in past eight matches in all competitions. Four of these eight ties ended in goalless draws. We thus have reasons to back the Under 2.5 goals FT bet as the main option, while you can alternatively back Senegal to win.
