Senegal vs Egypt
Africa – World Cup Qualification
Date: Tuesday, 29 March 2022
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade.
Senegal and Egypt face off on Tuesday night in the second-leg of their World Cup qualifier as they go head-to-head for a place in Qatar. After their first-leg gets over at Cairo International Stadium on Friday their attention now turns to a two-legged tie for a World Cup spot, with Senegal having home advantage here at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade.
Both these sides met less than two months ago in the Africa Cup of Nations final, and it was Senegal who came out on top that day as they won on penalties by 1-0 after a goal-less draw.
The Pharaohs will now look to quickly put that heartbreak behind them and return to winning ways as they turn their attention to the World Cup qualifiers where they will face the Lions of Teranga once again. They came off winning against Gabon by 2-1 on last November in the second stage of WC qualifiers and leading the Group F.
Senegal secured a World Cup qualification Playoff spot after finishing at the top of Group H with 16 points from 6 games. Their last WC qualifying game was against Congo, 4 months back grabbing a 2-nil win.
The freshly-crowned African champions head into this second-leg unbeaten in each of their last 13 games across all competitions excluding their first-leg outcome.
Senegal vs Egypt Head-to-head (h2h)
- Senegal won the last 3 h2h games including the previous AFCON finals.
- Egypt failed to get onto the scoresheet since their last 3 meet-ups.
- Last time The Pharaohs won against this side was back in 2006 AFCON Semi-finals, where they eventually won the title.
Senegal vs Egypt Prediction
Egypt won thrice of their last 4 games on road while their previous away loss is the one they still don’t want to remember. They are also on an unbeaten run at home since July 2019 and if they score enough on the first leg at home, there may be a chance for them.
Senegal is on an 8-game unbeaten run at home with winning 7 of them. They hope to repeat the same at AFCON finals which was also held at their home and perhaps drawing to an away in the first leg and going all out in the second.
A hard-fought home win is likely depending on their first-leg outcome.
