Sassuolo vs Cagliari
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 21 May 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: MAPEI Stadium (Reggio nell’Emilia).
Having beaten Inter last weekend, Sassuolo will hope to wrap up this season with a victory in their final home game as they prepare to face Cagliari on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the responsibilities of featuring in the Europa League and Serie A have cost Sassuolo dearly. Injuries didn’t help their cause either, as the inexperienced side was not well equipped to compete on two fronts. Still, the fact that they made it into the Europa League – at the expense of more established sides like AC Milan – is an impressive achievement in itself.
Remember, Sassuolo only secured promotion to the top tier at the start of the 2013 season, and as a result of his impressive work since arriving in Serie A, Eusebio Di Francesco could be on his way out.
His hard work has likely earned him a move to a bigger club and this could indeed be his final game at Sassuolo’s home ground. What better way to sign off in front of Sassuolo’s fans with a home win? And fortunately, they are welcoming a side who have been quite poor in their travels. Cagliari have lost 11 out of their last 15 away from home and have only managed to win against Palermo and Crotone – two teams in the bottom three.
Despite a decent attack, Cagliari’s defense has been absolutely abysmal. They have shipped a whopping 69 goals, which is the worst out of any team outside the bottom three. Meanwhile, Sassuolo have netted at least two or more goals per game in their last five games, meaning that the Neroverdi could grab a few goals here in front of their home fans.

Sassuolo vs Cagliari: Prediction
Cagliari have scored more than one goal in just three out of their last 18 away games, and their bad defending has seen them drop points. They aren’t in danger of relegation, but could find things tough here. Sassuolo, meanwhile, are undefeated in their last six, are playing at home, and have scored at least two goals per game in their last five. The Neroverdi will want to sign off on a good note and should be able to pick up all three points here.
