Sassuolo vs Bologna
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday 28 October 2018
Kick-Off: 11:30 UK,
Venue: MAPEI Stadium (Reggio Emilia).
After drawing Sampdoria 0-0, Sassuolo turn their attention back to taking on struggling Bologna as they hope to end their winless run. The Neroverdi have failed to win their last three games but are still in the top half of the table and it is a much improved showing so far as compared to last season.
After losing to AC Milan and Napoli, Sassuolo will be now hoping to pick up a full three points as they host Bologna, who had hoped for better fortunes under legendary striker Pippo Inzaghi, but his methodology has not taken root just yet.
There were signs of improvement as they beat Roma 2-0, but the visitors come into this game sitting in 17th place. More worrying is the fact that they have picked up just one point in their travels this season and have yet to score a goal on the road.
Their 2-0 win against Roma? That did not take place until matchday five, and along the way, they were even held to a scoreless draw by Frosinone, who are only appearing in the top flight for the second time in their history.
That was on the road, so with that in mind, Sassuolo will surely be fancying their chances at picking up another three points on home turf. They have beaten Inter, Empoli, and Genoa here and certainly Bologna should not present any sterner challenge than the Nerazzurri for the Neroverdi, who have looked overall a much stronger and improved side so far this campaign.
However, several key players, including Federico Peluso and Kevin Prince Boateng could be unavailable, with Peluso a definite absentee due to injury and Boateng struggling with fitness problems – meaning that Bologna could use that to their advantage as they really need to start putting points on the board.
Sassuolo vs Bologna: Head-to-head statistics
- Bologna have failed to score in 8 of their last 9 away matches
- Bologna have failed to win their last 14 away matches

- In addition, the Rossoblu have won their last 3 away matches against Sassuolo
Sassuolo vs Bologna: Prediction
Although Sassuolo are in a rut lately, having failed to win their last three games, two of those losses were against Napoli and Milan. The 4-1 defeat to the Rossoneri was their first home loss of the season. Bologna, meanwhile, have yet to find the back of the net on the road this season, with just one point earned so far.
However, Sassuolo have been hit with a mini injury crisis to some key players and have netted just one goal in their last three games. Could Bologna use this away game as a way to end their bad run on the road? They may not have a better opportunity than this one.
