Santos Laguna vs Toluca 2018 Liga MX Mexico Final First Leg

Santos Laguna vs Toluca
Mexican Liga MX Final 2018
Date: Friday, 18 May 2018
Kick-off at 2:00 am UK/ 3:00 Central Europe.
Venue: Estadio Nuevo Corona, Torreon.

Santos Laguna and Toluca take on each other in the battle for the Clausura trophy over two legs within the following three days. The first one is about to be played on Thursday evening at Estadio Nuevo Corona where Santos Laguna will try and gain advantage ahead of the rematch in Toluca.

The main challenge fir the hosts will be keeping things tight at the back given they’ll be up against an in-form opposition which bagged as many as four goals in a demolishing victory over Tijuana on Saturday.

Toluca have been by far the best team in the league throughout the season as they finished the regular campaign seven points clear at the top of the standings (11 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses).

Los Guerreros spent most of the season right at the second place, but the streak of four consecutive defeats dropped them down to fourth giving them somewhat tougher journey to the Clausura Final playoffs.

Santos Laguna vs Toluca: Head-to-head

  • Santos Laguna lead the head to head tie by three wins coming into their 40th encounter with Toluca.
  • Only one of last four head to head matches saw both teams on the scoreline.
  • At home, Santos Laguna won 10, drew 7 and lost only 2 of 19 meetings with Los Choriceros.

Santos Laguna vs Toluca: Prediction

Even though the most recent set of H2H matches offered tight encounters without too many goal-scoring chances, we expect to see an open affair in the final given both teams have been red-hot in the final third recently.

Santos Laguna notched six goals in two semi-final ties with America, while Los Choriceros scored five in two legs with Tijuana. The Argentine striker Julio Furch took his league tally to 16 when he bagged a brace in a comprehensive 4-1 win over America at Estadio Nuevo Corona. He makes a deadly attacking duo together with team’s top scorer Djaniny who has 19 goals to his name. This duo should have plenty of space to create up front knowing that Toluca conceded two goals in each of last two away games in the competition (against Morelia and Tijuana).

The home court advantage will play a big role here and we have to take the 2.25 odds offered for Santos Laguna to win the first leg in Torreon. You’ll get the same odds for backing the hosts to net two or more goals in the match.
