San Marino vs Scotland
Europe – EURO Qualification
Date: Sunday, 24 March 2019
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle (Serravalle).
Scotland enjoyed an encouraging campaign in the first ever edition of UEFA Nations League. They topped their respective group ahead of Israel and Albania winning three of four games along the way. The team led by Alex McLeish will thus enter the EURO 2020 qualifying campaign on a high.
The second round brings the easiest of fixtures for Alex McLeish and his men who travel to Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle to battle one of the weakest European teams. A slip-up here against San Marino is unthinkable and the only question is how many goals will Scots notch on this travel.
If we are to judge by their most recent spell of form, we could be in for a super high-scoring clash on Sunday evening. Scots bagged an impressive seven-goal tally in last two wins over the likes of Albania (0-4) and Israel (3-2) in November last year.
San Marino vs Scotland: Head-to-head
Scotland won each of six head to head meetings with San Marino with a goal difference of 16-0 in the process.
Teams, however, have not played each other in 18 years.
They last battled it out in qualifications for the World Cup 2002 (Korea/Japan) when Scotland picked up two easy straightforward wins (0-2 and 4-0).
San Marino vs Scotland: Prediction
Ryan Fraser is having the season of his life in this term of Premier League with Bournemouth. He scored just one goal in six appearances for the national team before March fixtures and we expect him to boost up this tally against a poor San Marino side here.
The hosts finished their Nations League run at the very foot of the Group 2 standings in League D. They failed to find the back of the net and had a miserable goal difference of 0-16 in six defeats against Belarus, Luxembourg and Moldova.
This will be a one-way street from the very first whistle and we will back the Scots to win by four or more goals difference at the odds of 1.83.
