San Marino vs Norway
World Cup Qualifiers – Europe (Group C)
Date: Thursday, 5th October 2017
Kick-off: 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: San Marino Stadium (Serravalle).
Another dead rubber in Group C as Norway and San Marino occupy the bottom two spots in the standings and are out of the qualification race. Yet, this is supposed to be an important fixture for Norway to achieve a respectable position in the table when the qualifying round close on 9th October.
San Marino lost all their games in the qualification round, as expected from a team of their stature. The team has conceded 38 goals so far, more than any other team combining all groups in the European qualifiers.
It will be worth to note that San Marino are yet to win a qualification match, let it be in the Euro or World Cup competitions. In the World Cup qualifiers alone, the team has arguably the worst record after having lost 60 of their 62 qualification matches so far. The other two games were draws, one versus Turkey at home in 1993 and the other against Latvia in 2001.
Norway are coming on the back of a 6-0 heavy defeat against Germany, which mathematically put an end to their qualification hopes. The team showed little promise throughout the campaign after managing just 2 wins from their 8 matches so far. Also, the Norwegians lost four on the bounce away from home.
San Marino vs Norway: Head-to-head
Thursday’s match will be the fourth between the two team and Norway had won in all the previous three.
San Marino vs Norway: Prediction
It will be a massive achievement for San Marino if they can achieve a draw against Norway on Thursday. But right now, I can’t see anything of that sort happening against a team like Norway.
