Sampdoria vs AC Milan
Italy – Serie A
Date: Wednesday, 29 July 2020
Kick-off at 18:30 UK/ 19:30 CET
Venue: Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
I Rossoneri have made sure of a spot in the Europa Qualifiers, but they still could better it with an entry directly into the Group Stage of the competition. But for that to happen, they need to win their next two fixtures, and want Roma to drop points as well.
The fact that Roma end their season with a game against Juventus surely provides hope for Stefano Pioli’s men. They also have been one of the best teams in the whole league since the competition restarted, and are preparing to give some serious trouble for title-contenders in the next season.
Claudio Ranieri’s men meanwhile have already ensured their safety from relegation, and judging by the fighting spirit they had shown in their fixture against the Old Lady, they would not at all make this easy for the seven-time European champions.
However, considering the respective recent forms of both teams, and the overall h2h domination of I Rossoneri, expect an AC Milan win this Wednesday.
Sampdoria vs AC Milan: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Pioli’s men recorded 23 of the previous 31 overall wins.
- They had kept clean sheets in seven of the former ten clashes.
- The reverse fixture had ended in a goalless draw.
- The hosts had failed to score in six of the preceding nine encounters at this stadium.
- At this venue, the guests had recorded five of the past seven victories.
Sampdoria vs AC Milan: Prediction
Ranieri’s men lost 2-0 on the road the past game week against Juventus, which effectively confirmed the Old Lady as the champions of the Serie A.
In the meantime, I Rossoneri were held to a 1-1 draw at home the last match-day, by Atalanta.
As things stand, Pioli’s men have the upper hand, They are on an unbeaten run of 11 fixtures (which included fixtures against Juventus, Lazio, Atalanta, Napoli etc), and were invincible in 22 of the preceding 24 overall match-ups as well.
Moreover, since September of 2019, they are unbeaten on the road against teams other than Juve, Atalanta, Inter and Roma – the absolute best teams in Italy.
On the other hand, La Samp are on a two-match losing run. On top of that, their opposite number had recorded 23 of the preceding 31 overall h2h wins, and they had kept clean sheets in seven of the former ten such meetings as well.
Taking into account these observations, expect a winning performance from AC Milan this week.
