Saint-Etienne vs Montpellier:
2016/17 French Ligue 1.
Date: Sunday, 21 August 2016,
Kick-Off: 16:00 UK,
Venue: Stade Geoffroy-Guichard (Saint-Etienne).
AS Saint-Etienne will hope to restore their defeat on opening day as they welcome Montpellier on Sunday.
Saint-Etienne succumbed to a 3-2 away loss to Bordeaux in their first match of the new season. They were 3-0 down by 70 minutes, but two quick goals in the last 10 minutes gave them some sort of consolation. St Etienne were in action against Beitar Jerusalem in the Europa League play-off fixture. They won 2-1 away in Israel, which will surely serve as a morale boost going to Sunday’s match against Montpellier.
On the other hand, Montpellier started their league campaign with a 1-0 home win over Angers SCO. An 8th minute goal by Ryad Boudebouz was the difference in a rather unconvincing display. However, Frederic Hantz will be happy after securing all three points in his first full season as the head-coach of Montpellier.

Saint-Etienne vs Montpellier: Prediction
St Etienne’s strong record against Montpellier suggest that they are clear favourites to win this fixture outright. The visitors are huge underdogs and it takes a mammoth effort from them to break the 7 loss streak against Etienne on Sunday.
The hosts are a good defensive unit, but their display in the 2-3 defeat to Bordeaux on the opening day may put that into question. However they have conceded only once in the last five home games in Ligue 1, which makes a strong case for this game to witness under 2.5 goals.
If Montpellier play at their best they could come out with a 1-1 draw.
