Aron Wright - May 14, 2018
Rotherham United vs Scunthorpe United
English League One Play-off Semi Final Second leg.
Date: Wednesday, 16 May 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: AESSEAL New York Stadium, Rotherham.
Rotherham United proved how lethal they can be in the final third when they scored two goals on Saturday afternoon in the first leg of the promotional semi-final tie against the Iron at Glanford Park. However, the Millers could not hold on to the lead conceding the last-gasp equalizer from substitute Cameron McGeehan who basically left Nick Daws’ side in the tie ahead of the reverse fixture at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Paul Warne’s men still have the cushion thanks to two away goals and we can expect a somewhat more careful approach from them on Wednesday. The Millers have plenty of reasons for optimism following their super impressive performances in front of the home fans so far in the season. Rotherham won 8 out of last 10 league ties at home. Will such form be enough to help them go past the Iron?
Scunthorpe’s game seems to suit Rotherham well given the Millers won both of the H2H encounters in the regular season.
Overall, it’s the Iron who lead the H2H tie by four wins coming into their 16th meeting with Rotherham United.
Rotherham bagged two or more goals in each of last three meetings with Scunthorpe, including Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Glanford Park.
Warne’s men remain favourites ahead of the second leg, but they’ll have to prove it on the ground against an outfit which finished the regular season on a high. The Iron are unbeaten in last 8 games on the road which is why the visiting fans can still dream of the huge final at Wembley.
Nonetheless, Warne seems to have the recipe for Scunthorpe’s game which was once again confirmed on Saturday at Glanford Park. Knowing that the Millers have been almost impeccable on the home patch throughout the season and that they saw off the Iron on both occasions in the regular season, we have to go with the home win at the 2.15 odds.
The visitors need goals here and they should risk more which will definitely open up the space for the Millers to strike from counter-attacks. We’ll go with another high-scoring contest and back Over 2.5 goals FT & BTTS at the 2.50 odds as an alternative bet.
