Ross County vs Motherwell: Prediction
Following two consecutive wins at Global Energy Stadium, The Staggies went to Livingston and got their backsides handed to them as Livingston proved inhospitable hosts in 4-0 win.
Sitting at 8th, a side co-managed by Steven Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell must tread carefully. With 20 points collected from 18 games, they’re five points off endangered Hamilton and with another bad run, relegation fight is a possibility.
At home, the Staggies are having mixed results. Four wins and four defeats from nine games; three of those four defeats were v Big Three of Scottish football, with fourth being their boogie team Livingston smashing them back in August.
Motherwell quickly recovered from 0-2 defeat at home v Rangers by snatching a cheeky away win v Killie.
Currently at 3rd, with title already out of reach, Stephen Robinson and his men must continue fighting should they want to hold off Aberdeen and secure Europe League qualifications.
The Steelmen are proving to be rather successful away, having managed five victories and a draw from nine excursions and should they win in Dingwall, it would make it third in a row on the road following an expected defeat v Celtic and a bottle job v Hibernian.
Ross County’s injury crisis seems to be calming down, as Don Cowie and Iain Vigurs are soon getting back in training. Michael Gardyne, Ross Draper and Tom Grivosti are still out whilst Jack Ruddy is battling an illness and might be unavailable for the time being.
Christian Ilic might soon be back in Motherwell shirt, as should Charles Dunne but for this game? Not likely. David Turnbull will have to wait till New Year; Christy Manzinga a bit longer.
This season, Motherwell often plays in series. Two or three wins, a defeat, rinse and repeat. And after a dropped lead in first meeting between the two, I expect them to be extra motivated for Thursday’s fixture. Ross County won last two home games but there are cracks in their game which The Steelmen will explore so I’m backing them to win this.
Also, I’d like to point out the fact that in four of their last five meetings, two or more goals have been scored in second half. So, here’s hoping they’ll continue in that manner…
