Man United manager Louis van Gaal has his eyes on the look for Wayne Rooney’s return to help the club cement a better position in the Premier League.
United’s season has been up and down but still found themselves in contention for FA Cup quarter-final replay against West Ham United and are chasing a Champions League qualification spot as they lie fifth position with 53 points, just a point between them and fourth placed City rivals- Man City.
Wayne Rooney missed couple of games for Man United through injury and returned to full scale training early this week.
With just six matches to end the season, Van Gaal is counting on Rooney to put the icing on the cake to lift the Club up.
“I am counting on him. I have said that to him already, but you have to be fit in the first place. Secondly, I have to compare him with the players who have played.”
“We are communicating every day with each other. He knows also my philosophy, Everybody knows that.”
“We communicate every day with him and I communicate with the doctor, with the player, and then we make a game plan. It’s not hard because I do that with every player and Wayne is very open for me.”
Man United will travel to Tottenham on Sunday and Rooney’s inclusion in that game will be too early. But Van Gaal confirms that Rooney has been impressive in his first training session since he returning from injury.
“When I saw him training yesterday, for example, he scored a goal. He made a fantastic chip over the goalkeeper.
“It was his first training session and then I said to him ‘I have never seen that this season.”
“So I cannot say that, because he can be so good that I shall be forced to give him a position in the team. But it depends on what we are seeing, and today was another day. There’s tomorrow also.
“Let’s wait. He plays 60 minutes at a lower level and maybe he can play against West Ham United, you never know.”
Manchester United’s FA Cup clash against West Ham is scheduled on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.
