Roma vs Sampdoria
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday 11 November 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
Roma have fared well in the Champions League, but have not been able to translate this to Serie A. The Giallorossi come into this game having earned a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow and are looking good to qualify for the round of 16, but they have failed to win their last three games and sit in a rather disappointing ninth place ahead of the next upcoming international break.
Shockingly, Roma lost their last home game, which was against SPAL. That was the first time they had lost to SPAL since September 1965, and although Eusebio Di Francesco had rotated his team for that game with one eye on the Champions League, it was still an embarrassing result. Following that were draws against Fiorentina and Napoli on the road, which are not bad results as playing at the Stadio San Paolo is never an easy feat, but they will be ruing some of their results, including the loss to SPAL and even to relegation candidates Bologna.
In addition, they failed to pick up all three points a while back against bottom-feeders Chievo, which also has cost them in the standings, and were unable to also seal a win against an Atalanta side who were then really out of sorts. All of this has not helped Roma one bit, but they will be looking to take advantage of Sampdoria’s collapse in form to try to possibly leapfrog Sassuolo in the table, as the Neroverdi are lodged in sixth spot and will face a tough test against Lazio on Sunday.
Sampdoria had hoped to compete for a European spot, but things have not gone according to plan. They again had perhaps also hoped to build their standing off their home form, and that isn’t working out either as they were thrashed 4-1 by Torino in their recent home fixture and were beaten 3-2 by AC Milan on the road. Prior to that, they failed to score in a 0-0 draw at home against Sassuolo, so things are not going well both at home and away.

Roma vs Sampdoria: Prediction
Although Roma will be somewhat tired after their trip to Russia, Sampdoria’s bad form make it hard to see how the visitors could actually come out and win this game. Certainly, with Roma still struggling to keep a clean sheet and having conceded in over 70% of their fixtures, the visitors could grab a goal, as they netted twice against AC Milan. However, the hosts should be able to field their strongest squad here, with Di Francesco learning from his mistakes from last time.
