Roma vs Chievo
Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 28 April 2018
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
After featuring in a thrilling Champions League tie with Liverpool, Roma now turn their attention back to domestic affairs as they take on Chievo on Saturday evening.
The Giallorossi seemed to be down and out after shipping five goals against a rampant Reds side, but again managed to claw their way back into the contest and scored two late goals. All they need now is a 3-0 win in Rome to advance – a similar position they found themselves in following a 4-1 away loss to Barcelona.
However, is it a bridge too far? Their comeback against Barcelona was one of the most memorable in recent times, but Liverpool certainly won’t make the same mistakes the Blaugrana did. Furthermore, Eusebio Di Francesco will have to figure out how to rotate his squad in order to keep everyone fresh for the crunch clash next week. Roma are locked in a three-way battle for the last two Champions League spots along with Inter and Lazio, but unlike the Nerazzurri and the Aquile, they have a midweek tie also to concern themselves with.
Fortunately perhaps, their upcoming opponents Chievo are nothing short of a disaster. The Flying Donkeys, who have managed to cruise along season after season to end up in mid-table are now in actual danger of relegation. Rolando Maran’s side never thought they’d find themselves here, but as things stand, they’re just two points away from the drop zone.
Chievo have really been on a downward spiral since the start of 2018 and with just a few games remaining, alarm bells have truly began to sound for the Flying Donkeys. They’re winless in their last five, and should things not go their way, could actually end this round sitting in the bottom three.
Roma vs Chievo: Head-to-head statistics

- At home, Roma won 7 of the last 8 h2h meetings while losing the other.
Roma vs Chievo: Prediction
Roma will be certainly exhausted following their trip to Anfield, and Di Francesco will have to make a tough choice as to whether to rotate or to field his strongest XI here. Regardless, Chievo have failed to win their last 13 away games and it’s hard to see them arresting that downward trend in this fixture. The hosts should be able to grind out a win and look ahead to how they will handle Liverpool next week.
