Roma vs Chievo
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Thursday, 22 December 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
After a disappointing loss, it’s back to the drawing board for Roma as they take on Chievo at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening.
The Giallorossi have long had ambitions to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto. However, in Saturday’s blockbuster clash, they again came up short in yet another frustrating result at Juventus Stadium. Gonzalo Higuain’s well-taken strike was enough to decide the match in favor for the Bianconeri and ensure that Juventus now have gone 25 games without a loss on their home turf. That just so happens to match a club record.
Roma had seen off AC Milan 1-0 in another big game on Monday before traveling to Turin. They now will have to regroup and refocus in order to keep the likes of Lazio and Napoli at bay and secure second spot ahead of the Christmas break. So far, the Lupi have yet to lose a game at the Stadio Olimpico. In fact, coming into this match, they have won their last 11 home games.
Meanwhile, the Flying Donkeys were off to a flying start at the start of this term, but things have settled down for Rolando Maran’s side. Usually, Chievo are perfectly happy with first achieving safety and then settling in somewhere in mid-table. With 25 points, they are just 15 points away from that so-called “magical” number of 40. Considering that there are still a half a season’s worth of games left to play, they really should have no problems at least achieving that goal.
Chievo have had their fair share of ups and downs, including becoming the first team to both lose and fail to score against debutants Crotone this season. However, they arrive in the Eternal City having won their past two games and surely will want to wrap up 2016 with a long-awaited victory over the Giallorossi.

Roma vs Chievo: Prediction
Roma played pretty well against Juventus, but unfortunately, one has to score to win. The Bianconeri, predictably didn’t give them much wiggle room in that department. Luciano Spalletti now will expect a reaction from his men in this fixture. Although Chievo will be happy with having won their past two games, one was against Palermo – a team who are struggling even to break out of the bottom three. Roma have managed to win 11 games at the Stadio Olimpico, whilst recording shut-outs in half of their home fixture this term.
Expect the Lupi to bounce back with a gritty win here and head into 2017 on a decent note.
