Rochdale are yet to hit the ground running back in the League One. Given that home advantage has not been working its charm for them lately either, count on Newcastle to breeze past the hosts come Saturday.
Rochdale vs Newcastle United Head to head (h2h)
The two sides have not locked horns with each other in recent times.
Rochdale vs Newcastle United Prediction
Rochdale edged past Boston United in the previous round by no more than a narrow 2-1 scoreline on the road. Despite taking the lead early on in that clash, their counterparts got off to a strong start post the restart and found the equalizer five minutes into the second half.
However, the hosts were handed a penalty soon after, which Aaron Morley made no mistake in converting. Disappointingly though, the League one side have not picked up a win since their victory over Boston United and are currently on a three-match losing streak.
It is also worth mentioning that Rochdale have not been coping well in front of the home crowd as of late. They have come out on top just once in their past six fixtures here. That too, in all competitions.
On the other hand, Newcastle are on a disappointing run of form of their own. The visitors are currently dwelling outside the top ten back in the Premier League, and have just one win from their past three games on the trot too.
Be that as it may, it goes without saying that the Magpies are plying their trade in arguably one of the toughest leagues across the whole of Europe. Their foes, in sharp contrast, are struggling to get things going for them in the third tier.
Taking into account the difference in quality between the two sides, Rochdale have little or no chance at all of causing an upset this weekend.
Furthermore, Newcastle have been quite tame in the final third this season, especially on the road. The guests have failed to get their names on the scoresheet on four occasions. Miserably, they have scored just nine goals from their past ten outings as well.
In addition, Rochdale’s frontline have been just as dismal and have found the back of the net just thrice from their past five games here.
As such, count on goals to be hard to come by in this one.
