Rennes returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats to direct rivals in the battle for the top-three finish Monaco and Strasbourg.
They have done it in some style, putting five unanswered goals past Lorient six days ago at Roazhon Park.
Rennes demonstrated their strength by scoring the last two goals with ten men on the pitch sine their center-back Naif Aguerd was sent off just before the hour-mark on the occasion.
Bruno Genesio’s troops are still sharing the third place in the Ligue 1 ladder with Monaco as the two teams sit on 59 points apiece with just four games remaining.
Rennes will have a great chance to back up the last weekend’s win on Saturday evening when they play host to relegation strugglers Saint-Etienne.
The visitors are third from bottom in the Ligue 1 ladder, currently holding the place that takes to the relegation playoffs (against the third-placed team from Ligue 2).
Les Verts are, however, only three points behind 15th-placed Lorient and two points shy of the likes of Troyes and Clermont.
However, it is very hard to see them claiming salvation points here at Roazhon Park against one of the best attacking teams in the division.
Rennes’ impressive 75-goal tally is only a single goal shy of the one owned by new champions PSG. We would by no means be surprised to see Genesio’s troops overtaking it completely after this weekend.

This is probably one of the most one-sided affairs of the season based on everything written above. Rennes are enormous favorites to celebrate a comprehensive victory on Saturday night.
We would not be surprised to see the same scenario from the reverse clash between these two teams in the first part of the season. We will back Rennes to win by three or more goals difference as the main betting option at the odds of 3.30.
