Rennes vs Lille
French Ligue 1
Date: Friday, 24 May 2019
Kick-Off 20:05 UK / 21:05 CET
Venue: Roazhon Park (Rennes).
Lille produced another amazing attacking showing last weekend when they put five goal past bottom-half Angers side for a tremendous farewell to their fans for this extraordinary Ligue 1 campaign.
Les Dogues will finish the season as runners-up to PSG. This has been one of their best league runs of the decade, the best following the 2010/11 generation which claimed competition’s silverware.
Chris Galtier’s men once again revealed their superb attacking potential. The French manager has a lethal pair of attackers in the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Jonathan Bamba.
They were both on the scoreline last weekend and we expect them to shine on Friday evening as well when Lille travel to Roazhon Park to take on mid-table Rennes in the last match of the season.
Rennes vs Lille: Head-to-head
The home court advantage played a massive role in the history of this match-up.
Lille lead the head to head tie by five wins coming into the landmark 50th meeting with Les Rouges et Noirs.
Nonetheless, Rennes were the more successful side in home matches against Les Dogues (13 wins, 7 draws and just 4 losses in 24 games at Roazhon Park).
Rennes vs Lille: Prediction
Rennes had numerous lacklustre performances this season, but they did show strength when they needed it most.
Les Rouges et Noirs took a huge PSG scalp in the Coupe de France final almost a month ago. They found the energy to claw their way back into the contest after conceding two goals and claimed the trophy which sent them to Europa League next season.
Julien Stephan’s men have gone unbeaten in four following games ever since the Cup victor. They scored at least two goals in five of past six games across competitions, a thread which includes a 0-2 victory on Saturday away at Strasbourg.
Since both teams are flying high attacking coming into this tie, backing goals galore has to be the way to go here.
