Rennes vs Brest
French Ligue 1
Date: Saturday 8th February 2020
Kick off at 19:00 UK/ 20:00 CET
Venue: Roazhon Park.
Rennes lost 1-0 to Lille in midweek and they damaged their chances to finish 2nd. With Marseille winning Rennes have slipped 6 points behind them and also now have Lille themselves on their backs, just three points separates the two clubs.
So this is a must win game and Rennes will hear that a lot in the next few weeks as they cling onto 3rd place which is the final place that gives Ligue 1 teams hopes of qualifying for the Champions League via a play off place.
Form for Rennes is a bit lopsided, they are winning games but finding no consistency and have won 7 points from their last 15, so not really good enough for a team in 3rd place.
Brest got a decent draw 1-1 at home to Bordeaux and they would have settled for that after losing 3-0 to Dijon in their previous game. The club were tipped to go down at the beginning of the season but at this moment they are 8 points from the bottom three and looking good to stay up. The problem they have is playing away and they have lost 7 of their 11 games on the road. They are conceding 2 goals a game on average and have lost 4 of their last 5 games away.
Rennes vs Brest: Head to Head
The teams have not played here since 2012 when the game finished 2-2.
In the league the clubs have played each other 7 times in the last decade with Brest winning just once.
There is a 75% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Rennes vs Brest: Prediction
This should be a straightforward home win. Brest played Dijon the other week and did not look good or comfortable against them losing 3-0 and Rennes are a much better side than them. There is no excuse for Rennes not to win this game and we think they will ease to victory. This is our main choice and we will also back them to score at least 2 goals which they will need a couple to secure a win here. Brest best chance of points still seems to be at home.
