Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: Preview and Predictions

Aron Wright - April 29, 2018

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich
Champions League Semifinal Second Leg
Date: Tuesday, 1st May 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu (Madrid).

Real Madrid earned the bragging rights of the first leg against Bayern with a 2-1 similar to what happened in their clash last season.

The Germans took the lead at Munich same as last year and then went on to waste a number of chances. But Real were smart enough to make use of limited chances to turn it around. The only difference is that it was Ronaldo last year, this time it was goals from Marcelo and Asensio.

We can say it is ‘game-on’ in the second leg as we have already seen how Real crumbled against Juve at their own turf even with a big lead. Bayern did manage to get on level terms with a 2-1 win at Madrid last season as well, before 3 extra time goals send Zidane’s men to the next round.

Real Madrid Team News

Isco and Carvajal picked up knocks in the first leg of the corresponding fixture and are major doubts for the second leg. Meanwhile, Nacho is in the nursing table since a while.

Predicted Line-up (4-4-2)

Navas – Marcelo, Varane, Ramos, Lucas – Casemiro, Modric, Kroos – Asensio, Benzema, Ronaldo.

Bayern Munich Team News

Arjen Robben lasted 8 minutes in the first leg and he can be ruled out of the second leg at Madrid. Same can be said about Jerome Boateng who was taken off with a thigh injury around the half-hour mark.

Manuel Neur, Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, David Alaba and Kingsley Coman are all sidelined with long terms injuries.

Bayern Munich Predicted Starting Line-up (4-3-3)

Ulreich – Rafinha, Hummels, Boateng, Kimmich – Thiago, Tolisso, James, – Ribery, Muller, Lewandowski.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: Head-to-head

Madrid got just ahead in the h2h meetings between against Bayern with 12 wins, 2 draws as against 11 losses.

Real have now won 5 of the last 6 meetings with Bayern, losing in 1 which is their last meeting at Bernabeu.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich: Predictions

The Los Blancos certainly have an advantage in the second leg. But, I can see Bayern coming out with their A-game to make life difficult for Zidane’s men. So, an end to end attacking game is what we expect on Tuesday. Therefore, once again put your faith on a high scoring game.

However, I wouldn’t bet on full-time result for this match as I have little trust in Real Madrid’s defensive prowess and vary of Bayern’s attacking threat.
