Real Madrid had made attempts to sign Barcelona ace Lionel Messi on three separate occasions since 2011 with all of them ending in a failure.
According to the latest report by Cadena COPE, it has been revealed that the insecurity regarding the situation of Cristiano Ronaldo had forced Los Blancos in taking such a step.
Real Madrid feared losing Ronaldo as Manchester City tabled a huge offer in 2011 and thus they tried to praise Messi away from Barcelona.
Florentino Perez wanted someone who can bring immediate success in case Ronaldo decide to leave and identified Messi as the perfect replacement and thus made the first attempt in 2011.
As reported by Spanish publication Sport, the response from the Argentine’s response was quick “Thanks for the interest, but Leo is not moving.”
The second try came in the summer of 2013 as Ronaldo’s future at the club in doubt once again after the Portuguese captain was reluctant to renew his contract.
The elite Premier League clubs has joined in the race and once again Real made an approach for Leo and this time again they received the same reply.
And the third and last attempt occurred in the summer of 2014 and this time a high ranking executive from Madrid forced a meeting with Messi’s representatives.
But once again the response was similar as in the two occasions.
