Reading vs Fulham
England – The Championship
Date: Saturday, 12th August 2017
Kick off at 15:00 UK/16:00 CET
Venue: Madejski Stadium.
Probably the most anticipated game of the round 2 in the Championship is Reading against Fulham. They played each other in the play-offs last year and Reading emerged victorious.
Reading won a midweek fixture from the League Cup. The team managed to go through with 2 goals from young midfielder Liam Kelly. He scored 2 outstanding goals in 72nd and 84th minutes from the edge of the area to mark a man of the match performance.
The season opener wasn’t so good for the Royals though. They suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of QPR while Tiago Illori faced the red card after he hold Wszołek just in front of his goal preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity. Reading conceded the first goal in the middle of the first half when Washington was left unmarked at the far post and headed the ball in. In the 89th minute Washington again scored the penalty which Illori conceded for 2-0. From there on left with 10 man and 2 goal deficit Reading were unable to recover.
Jaap Stam is expected to continue fielding his team with 3 at the back on Saturday after that proved to be useful at holding against a free scoring side like Fulham last year. Reading will try to control the game without opening too much for Fulham to hit them on the counter.
Fulham also continued their campaign in the League cup midweek after 0-2 victory over Wycombe. 2 goals in the second half from Lucas Piazon and Odoi ensured Fulhams victory. First Piazon scored a cracker from outside the penalty area and then in the 81st minute Odoi headed the ball home after a corner kick.
Cottagers were hoping to start the season with a victory over a top 6 contender at home but Norwich denied them. Slavisa Jokanovic fielded his usual 4-3-3 formation which earned him a lot of neutral fans last season with its fast attacking football. Fulham didn’t have the best of games but still managed to open the score after canaries captain Kelly scored an own goal in 24th minute. Fulham proceeded to play with fire and paid for it in the end. Oliveira received an outstanding through ball and managed to beat the keeper for the final 1-1.

Last 3 games finished with less than 3 goals but the previous 7 all had at least 3.
Reading vs Fulham: Prediction
Both teams know their strengths and weaknesses very well. Considering it is still early in the season both managers are expected to be cautious. Low-scoring affair may be on the cards on Saturday.
Reading were hugely disappointing away last season but their home form was exceptional. That is further proved by the 2 wins at home last season against Fulham so favoring the hosts in this game has value.
