Rangers vs Celtic
Scotland – Premiership
Date: Saturday, 2 January 2021
Kick-off at 12:30 UK/ 13:30 CET
Venue: Ibrox Stadium.
This just might be the title-decider this season in the Premiership. The campaign has entered its second half, and contrary to past nine seasons, the dominance of the Hoops seem to be in question.
Arch-rivals Teddy Bears are placed at the top, and have a lead of 16 points. Steven Gerrard’s men are also yet to lose a fixture through this whole campaign as well.
Neil Lennon’s men have no option but to consider this match-up a virtual final. They have to secure a win this weekend at any cost, if they hope to have a shot at winning the title.
Suffice it to say that the defending champions are under huge pressure, while the Teddy Bears would be happy to take advantage of this scenario, and emerge victorious.
Rangers vs Celtic: Head-to-head (h2h)
- These two locked horns just two months back, and then Gerrard’s men recorded a 0-2 win.
- They are also on a two-game winning run, and had scored two or more goals in both.
- They had kept clean sheets in three of the preceding seven clashes.
- However, their counterparts had recorded 15 of the past 19 overall wins.
Rangers vs Celtic: Prediction
This time around, the Teddy Bears have easily been the best team in the competition, and that too by a mile.
They have scored a total of 56 goals from their 21 games, whereas the next-best is just 45 by the title-holders. It also needs to be mentioned that none of the other squads have even touched the 30-goal mark.
In terms of defense, Gerrard’s men have conceded just five goals all through this tournament, while every other team has let in 14 or more goals.
On top of that, the toppers were unbeaten in 35 of their last 37 overall match-ups, and the two losses during this stretch had come in the League Cup, and in the Europa League.
At home, they had also won 15 of their last 16 appearances. On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in 11 of their preceding 18 overall fixtures, and remained so in five of their former seven games on the road.
In addition, Lennon’s men have not shown their typical form at all this season, and are also on a two-fixture losing run in h2h meetings.
By the looks of things, it’s expected that Rangers will extend their impressive streak to the new year as well.
