Qatar vs China
World Cup Qualifiers – Asia
Date: Tuesday, 5th September 2017
Kick-off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium (Doha).
Qatar are out of the World Cup qualification race following the 1-3 defeat against Syria. They sit at the foot of the table with little to play for on final matchday.
Meantime, China on fifth with 9 points could still make it into the top three, but they have a -3 goal difference. This means they have to beat Qatar by a minimum 4 goal margin. So, this can be only considered as a mathematical chances and they are out of contention in real.
Qatar are one of the most inconsistent teams in the qualification phase. They did beat South Korea and Syria in home matches, while losing out of Iran and Uzbekistan. At the same time, they totally flopped in road games and remain without a win.
China gathered some confidence under Marcelo Lippi, but the damage was already done before the arrival of the Italian. The Dragons picked 2 wins and 2 draws from their last 5 matches, with the lone defeat coming against Iran. However, they are yet to register a win on the road. But there is some new found confidence as seen in the 2-2 away draw against Syria back in June.
Qatar vs China: Head-to-head
The teams met twice during the second phase of the current campaign and the home teams bagged wins on that occasion. The reverse leg of the third phase in China was a goal-less draw.
Meanwhile, China are yet to win a World Cup qualification game in Qatar, drew 3 and lost 2.
Qatar vs China: Predictions
The team have little to play for and one must expect them to play with much freedom than in previous rounds. China have improved since Marcelo Lippi took over, while Qatar will be confident of doing a decent job after beating Korea in their last home fixture. Punters must see this as a high scoring affair and goal markets are the most attractive options for this qualification fixture.
