PSV Eindhoven vs PEC Zwolle: Prediction
Mark van Bommel might be gone but fire is still raging on in Eindhoven as they needed an extra time to get past an amateur GVVV side in KNVB Cup second round.
With only two wins from last eight Eredivisie matches, PSV sit on fourth, 10 points off leading duo of AZ and Ajax and a point away from Willem II at third.
Despite their stumbles, Boeren have a really good record playing at Philips Stadion; six wins, a draw and one loss, 23 goals scored and 9 conceded, with last match here being 5-0 thrashing of Fortuna.
In the Tuesday night’s all Eredivisie affair, Fortuna Sittard dumped PEC Zwolle out of the Cup beating them 3-nill in Limburg.
A relegation contender at 15th on the table, a point off first threatened side, VVV Venlo, boasting a WDL record of 5-1-11, scoring 24 whilst conceding 38 times.
Last week they’ve had their first away victory since August as John Stegeman’s side bested and leapfrogged VVV Venlo in a 1-2 win. Apart from those two W, Blauwvingers lost all seven of their remaining games on the road.
Van Osch is close to returning but will have to wait till New Year to don the gloves for PSV again. Lammers is still out due to knee surgery and same fate struck Boeren’s goal machine Donyell Malen who’ll miss four months of football after tough injury in a 3-1 loss to Feyenoord.
Bram van Polen and Etienne Reijnen are still out for traveling side.
Yet despite everything, PSV is far superior team and should gift their caretaker manager Ernest Fabert his first Eredivisie win at their helm. In front of their own fans, Boeren are vastly different side and should make a quick work of a relegation straggler. Over 3 goals is a good shout too considering how lethal PSV has been at home and their h2h history with Zwolle.
