PSG took advantage of Marseille’s recent slip-ups to go ten points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 standings with a run of four subsequent league wins.
The latest has come much harder than expected as Chris Galtier’s troops needed a late Kylian Mbappe winner to get the job done against Brest at Stade Francis-Le Ble.
It was Mbappe’s 19th goal of the season and the French superstar is now level on goals with Lille’s Jonathan David at the top of league’s goal-scoring charts.
With the league pretty much wrapped up and the Champions League elimination, Mbappe could likely play for his personal records in an attempt to win the competition’s top goalscorer award this year.
PSG will be big favourites to prolong the winning streak in the league on Sunday afternoon when they host top-half rivals Rennes in one of the most interesting games of Matchday No 28.
Rennes have been struggling of late, failing to find the back of the net in either of the previous two league outings against Marseille and Auxerre.
Bruno Genesio’s men did very little to hurt relegation-threatened Auxerre last weekend, registering no more than seven total attempts in the 90 minutes of action at Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps.
None of the last four games Rennes played offered three or more goals scored and we would not be surprised to see the visitors failing to find the back of the net in the third straight league match here.
