What to expect from PSG and Arsenal Champions League game?

Champions League football returns this week and Arsenal are starting their 18th participation in European top flight competition with a trip to France capital Paris to lock-horns with giants PSG.

Arsenal always get an easy group in the Champions League, but to lift the trophy remains the big question on football fans mind which need a answer, another season had kick-started and once again the Gunners have a story to write in European top flight competition in Group A that features PSG, Ludogorets Razgrad, and FC Basel 1893.

Over the past five years Arsene Wenger has failed to lead his team to past the round sixteenth stage facing tough opponents due to their inability to top every Group they found themselves in.

On another thread, PSG are much poised to make a mark in the same group as their upcoming opponent. Laurent Blanc who won three consecutive French Ligue I and other domestic trophies for the Club was shown the exit door months after he penned new two years contract extension as Sevilla manager Unai Emery took over, indicating that PSG owners are sick of winning domestic titles and their focus now is on an European triumph. Unai Emery won three consecutive Europa League during his tenure at Sevilla.

With all due respect to the other two clubs in Group A in FC Basel 1893 and Ludogorets Razgrad, Arsenal and PSG are the favourites side’s to sail through to the next round. Both PSG and Arsenal are questing for a first Champions League win as that could possibly boost either side to the top.

PSG has never gone beyond the quarter-finals of the competition in the club’s history for the past decade, the past five seasons since they started dominating the French Ligue I ended in quarterfinals at Europe.

Duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Luiz are out of the team following a moves to Premier League clubs such as Man United and Chelsea respectively, the French side did not get any replacement for these players specially Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it is looking like a final touch is missing upfront, the attack is not as clinical as it was last season and Unai Emery’s domestic campaign has not being sweet as expected often struggle to win their first three matches a stats of one win, one draw and one lost recorded. The aim of Les Perisien is to possibly win this season’s competition and that will be achieved if Unai Emery encourage his boys to raise their game high.

Arsenal advanced to quarter finals of the Champions League in 2009/10 season and since then their best has always being the round sixteenth stage for the past six seasons. Arsene Wenger augmented his squad with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Skhodran Mustafi, Lucas Perez amongt others aiming at success in both domestic and Europe, Arsenal last four league matches saw two wins, one lost and a draw so going to Parc De Prince which both teams will play with squad in depth.

Tactical brains by the two managers will do the job but for the Gunners to surpass their bad Champions League performance. Topping the Group should be their hall mark at this stage and it will start on Tuesday evening.
