Preston vs Wigan
Date: Saturday, 10 August 2019
Kick-off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Deepdale Stadium.
Preston were handed a 1-0 defeat in their opening game against Millwall on the road. The loss came as no surprise though, as the dismal hosts managed just one feeble shot on target throughout the game.
Wigan, on the other hand, mustered a comeback in their first clash against the freshly relegated Cardiff side, to secure all three points. The visitors went from being a goal down at half time to posting a 3-2 scoreline in their favor at the last blast of the whistle.
The away side finished three places above the relegation zone in their previous campaign and will be hoping for a much better run in the league this season.
However, with home advantage out of the equation on Saturday, the possibilities of admitting defeat are looming large for Wigan, who had one of the worst away records last time out.
Preston vs Wigan Head to head (h2h)
- The two sides have previously locked horns with each other thirteen times.
- Two out of their last four clashes have seen Preston pick up the win.
- Only one team has scored in three of their last four meetings.
- Wigan have kept one clean sheet in their previous six clashes, while Preston have managed one more.
Preston vs Wigan Prediction
The hosts are currently unbeaten in their last two games on home soil, and have lost just twice in their last ten. Although they did succumb to defeat in their opening matchup on the road, Preston’s record on home soil certainly suggests that it will not be the case when they welcome Wigan to the Deepdale Stadium this weekend.
The Lilywhites scored forty-one goals at home in their previous campaign and were defeated on just five occasions. Additionally, Wigan have not got the better of Preston in their last two trips here.
Considering Wigan’s poor run form on the road, it looks more than likely that the win will be swinging in favor of Preston at the end of the ninety minutes. The visitors have lost without finding the back of the net in their last two clashes.
Given that they also scored just twenty-two goals on the road last season, the Latics are unlikely to cause any trouble to the hosts in their defensive third. So, expect Preston to edge it past Wigan with under 2.5 goals on the scorecards.
