Preston North End vs Reading: Prediction
A deflected last minute strike from Leeds United grabbed two points off the Lilywhites, despite Alan Browne’s fantastic first half opener at Elland Road.
The North End is having a decent season so far. After overcoming their mid-November crisis and four defeats in a row, Alex Neil’s men sit at 6th, two points off Forest, who’s first below playoffs line (and have game in hand).
Deepdale Stadium is a fortress this year, as The Lilywhites are absolutely phenomenal in front of their own crowd. Nine wins and two draws from twelve games, with one defeat coming from extra time penalty scored by Charlie Austin of West Brom.
A simply stunning strike from John Swift secured the Royals a 1-0 home win v QPR to send Royals fans home happy and sign the 2019. off The Madejski with a victory.
This made it for second win in a row for Mark Bowen’s men, extending their unbeaten streak to four which placed them at 15th place at Championship’s table with a game in hand.
On the road, The Royals are on a three-game unbeaten run, with last one being 0-0 draw in Stoke-On-Trent. They’re just as unspectacular as one expects them to be, with eleven points from eleven games and null goal difference.
Louis Moult is out for a season and is only player Neil’s missing for this fixture as Rafferty and Fisher sat out their suspensions and are back in the side.
George Puscas and Andy Yiadom are evaluated each day as they’re close to full recovery but I wouldn’t hold my breath for them to be available for Sunday.
In my opinion, The Lilywhites are seeing of 2019. with a win at their fortress. Reading might be on a four-game wining streak in these meetings but three of those four games were played at The Madejski Stadium. In one remaining game at Deepdale, The Royals were ridiculously lucky to come out with three points and I just can’t see that happening again.
And while PNE are near invincible on their home turf, they do kinda always seem to concede at least a goal (13 in 12 games played). So I’d bank it on both teams to find back of the net in this clash. Let’s end 2019. in style.
