Preston North End vs Queens Park Rangers
English League Championship
Date: Saturday, 4th August 2018
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Deepdale (Preston).
Preston North End opens up this year of the domestic season with a home game against QPR. The hosts had an overall good campaign last year and will be looking to make it better this time.
Preston missed narrowly on top 6 last year. The team was always amongst the top teams giving headache to anybody playing against them with their high pressing attitude and sturdy game. Well organized and energetic the team was trouble for any side. Still the high number of draws saw them lose a lot of points which eventually cost them their place in the play-offs.
Their usual style saw them net a lot of goals in their preseason games. Lowe league sides were unable to keep up the tempo and Preston was scoring for fun in games against Bamber Bridge, Fylde and Ramblers. The also did decently well against higher profile sides such as West Ham and Burnley drawing against the London side and losing narrowly to Burnley.
QPR were near the relegation fight all season long. Sure they had some distance and never looked really threatened but that’s not their ambition. The team now has a very experienced manager in the face of Steve McLaren.
Still there are a lot of problems around the club. QPR broke the financial fair play rules and the team was punished accordingly. They have a transfer ban for January which means no incoming transfer till the end of the season and also had to pay 20m pounds in compensations for the breach of the rules.
