Preston vs Fulham:
England – Championship.
Date: Saturday, 13 August, 2016
Kick-off: 15:00 UK.
Venue: Deepdale Stadium (Preston).
Fulham will be keen to build up on their winning start to the season when they travel to Preston for the match-day 2 fixture of the 2016/17 English League Championship on Saturday.
The Saturday’s host Preston North End fell to a narrow 1-0 loss to Reading on the opening day of the Championship. They were easily the second best side on the day and head-coach Simon Grayson will be hoping on a huge improvement in the first league fixture at home for the new season. Grayson named a full strength squad for the mid-week Capital One fixture against the League Two outfit Hartlepool United. It turned out to be another disappointing outing and needed an injury time goal from Eoin Doyle to hand Preston a narrow 1-0 win against a much weaker opponent.
Fulham started their 2016/17 league campaign on a higher note by defeating a strong Newcastle United by 1-0 in the opening fixture. A first half goal from Matt Smith was enough to hand them full points against the wasteful Toons. Their new head-coach Slavisa Jokanovic went out with a completely changed squad for the Capital One fixture against the lower division side Hartlepool United. The Cottagers were made to sweat it out in the 3-2 win, but will surely go into this game on high morale.
Preston vs Fulham: Head-to-Head Stats
Despite being two of the oldest clubs in England, Preston and Fulham had met only on 18 occasions. This is mainly due to the fact that they hardly spend longer periods together in the same division.
Fulham remained unbeaten in the two league meetings of the last season, with a 1-1 draw at home and a 2-1 win away at Preston.
Their previous meeting was 14 years ago in the 2000/2001 Championship season.
Preston vs Fulham: Prediction
Simon Grayson, who succeeded in bringing Preston back to the Championship two seasons ago will be aiming for the play-off spots this season. They were 11th in the last season’s standings and any success they will have this season will be based on their strong home form. If you look back Preston have only one from their last 8 matches and are without a win in their last 6 Championship home games.
Fulham might have started the season well earning back-to-back wins in competitive matches. But they were one of the worst away sides in the Championship in the last two seasons, managing just 9 wins from their 46 matches. So Preston will certainly have their noses in front and they believe they can come out with a positive result from this fixture.
However a low scoring affair is expected and looking at the various stats, this might end in a narrow 1-0 win for the home side. But it will be safe to back Preston on a double chance win or draw, considering the inconsistent forms of both sides involved.
Preston vs Fulham: Tips
- Double Chance – Preston/Draw.
