Preston faces Reading at Deepdale as the two teams sit right next to each other in the table.
Preston suffered a defeat at the hands of Derby County midweek. The team played well but a mistake at the back led to penalty. Vydra was clinical from the spot and scored the only goal in the game.
Reading had a far more pleasant time in the midweek fixture. The team dominated Aston Villa but was unable to win with bigger margin due to mistakes in the final third. Lack of concentration in the end even let Aston Villa to hit one back but the Royals held firm and denied the equalizer for the final 2-1.
Form and Tactical Analysis
Preston so far looks very stable at the back. The team kept 2 clean sheets but up front things are not looking so rosy with just a single goal score out of the 3 games played. Still 4 points against some formidable opponents is not that bad of a start and their fans will be looking into the season with confidence.
It was interesting to see Preston’s last game as the team switched its preferred 4-5-1 formation with 3 at the back. They looked solid defensively but lacked some creativity and cutting edge up front.
Same old Reading as last season. Strong at home terrible away. The team got 4 points at home against strong opponents like Villa and Fulham and suffered a defeat at QPR. Jaap Stam really needs to improve in that area if he wants his team to be better than last year.
Jaap Stam continues to switch tactics often according to the opposition as he did last season. He wants his team to be versatile and adapt quickly. Reading can operate with both 3 or 4 at the back while also switching from two to one strikers even midway through the game.
Preston vs Reading: Head to head
Reading has the advantage in the last 10 games with 5 victories while Preston only has 3.
Still when we get the most recent 4 games 3 of them were won by Preston.
Preston vs Reading: Prediction
Preston are a strong home side with a good defensive line. That’s literally nightmare for Reading since they suffer away from home and their strongest weapon is their attack. Preston have a slight edge here.
Reading will be cautious this game as Jaap Stam knows his team weak spots. He would prefer a goalless draw rather than risking to lose the game with difference. We may have another low scoring game this round.
