Date: Thursday, 7th June 2018
Kick-Off at 20:15 UK / 21:15 CET
Venue: Estadio da Luz, Lisbon.

Portugal face Algeria on Thursday evening in what is their final test before the World Cup in Russia. Selecao das Quinas will take on the likes of Spain in the mouth-watering derby on the second day of the competition, but their eyes look to be set for the second-round bout which is about to see them take on African hopefuls Morocco.

This is why Fernando Santos chose to play the North African outfits of Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria before the World Cup. Portugal bagged two goals past Egypt and Tunisia each and they should really be able to at least match such record against Algeria who have been struggling badly with the form over the past couple of years.

Fennec Foxes had an underwhelming World Cup Qualification campaign which saw them clinch no more than two points in six games of the final round. The former center-back Mustapha Madjer took charge of the team in October last year, but the talented team is yet to perform as the Africans will come into this off the back of three consecutive defeats in international friendlies.

Portugal vs Algeria: Head-to-head

This will be the first head to head meeting between Portugal and Algeria.

Portugal vs Algeria: Predictions

Even though the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Nabil Bentaleb and El-Arabi Soudani featured the starting lineup, the Fennec Foxes shockingly fell 2-3 to Cape Verde Islands in a friendly played a week ago on their soil. The defensive line just seems incapable of keeping things tight at the back in their latest fixtures as Algeria conceded as many as seven goals in three subsequent losses against the names of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Cape Verde Islands.

This makes Portugal to net two or more goals in the match a genuine banker at the 1.61 odds. Fernando Santos will likely have his star man Cristiano Ronaldo in the line-up here after Real Madrid superstar skipped the goalless draw with Belgium on Saturday. Portugal are heavy favourites here and we expect them to clinch a demolishing victory in front of the home crowd in Lisbon.
