Porto vs Benfica
Portuguese Primeira Liga
Date: Saturday, 2 March 2019
Kick-Off at 20:30 UK / 21:30 CET
Venue: Estadio Do Dragao (Porto).
The stage is set for the biggest match Portuguese football can offer at the moment. Top two sides Porto and Benfica come across each other in O Classico which could well determine the future Primeira Liga champion.
Porto only have a one-point cushion on the second-placed Eagles who have been enjoying a much better form in recent weeks.
The hosts slipped up playing back-to-back draws to Vitoria Guimaraes and Moreirense at the start of February. They also lost 2-1 to Roma in the first leg of the R16 Champions League tie at Olimpico.
Nevertheless, Sergio Conceicao’s men managed to return to winning ways, clinching three successive victories in all competitions. They did so in style, bagging eight goals without conceding a single in the process.
The most recent of successes came on Tuesday evening when the Dragons demolished Sporting Braga 3-0 at home in the first leg of Taca da Portugal semi-final.
Porto vs Benfica: Head-to-head
Porto were the more successful side in a long history of O Classicos.
They lead the H2H tie by ten wins coming into the landmark 170th tie with bitter rivals Benfica.
Porto lost only one of past nine meetings with Benfica, but they also won just three in the process.
One of these three wins came in mid-January in Taca da Liga semi-final (1-3 at Estadio da Luz).
Benfica took a 1-0 victory when teams met each other in this term of Primeira Liga.
Five of last six H2H games saw fewer than three goals scored.
Porto vs Benfica: Prediction
Benfica won eight consecutive league matches and they will no doubts come into this as form favourites. They destroyed Nacional 10-0 at home three weeks ago, while they also went past Turkish giants Galatasaray in the last 32 round of Europa League 2-1 on aggregate.
These two likes have best defensive records in the league. Since the match has an enormous importance representing direct clash for the title, we don’t expect either of two mangers taking unnecessary risks going forward.
Five of last six head to head games produced fewer than three goals and backing the Under 2.5 goals FT is our main betting suggestion here. Braver tipsters can shoot for the draw at 3.20.
