Philippines vs Syria
World Cup Qualification Asia 2nd Round
Date: Thursday, 5 September 2019
Kick-off at 12:30 UK / 13:30 CET
Venue: Panaad Stadium (Philippines).
It has been a tough year so far for Philippines who are yet to register their first win in 2019. Following their exit from the AFF Suzuki Cup in December last year, the squad have been at the receiving end of back to back defeats. The home team had a very dismal Asia Cup campaign as well where they hit rock bottom in their respective group with zero wins from three games.
Furthermore, the hosts were handed a 2-0 defeat in their last friendly against China, who have also been drawn alongside them in the same group for the World Cup qualifiers.
Syria, on the other hand, failed to make much of a name for themselves in the WAFF Championship and subsequently slumped to the bottom of the table without a win to their name. The visitors have not been faring well in their recent friendlies either and have just two wins to boast of from their last eight.
However, the away side will certainly be fancying their chances of getting off to a positive start, as Philippines have not been able to break free from the seven-match losing streak that they are on at the moment.
Philippines vs Syria Head to head (h2h)

- Both of their meetings so far have seen over 2.5 goals on the scoresheet.
- Syria have netted seventeen goals from their two matchups while Philippines have managed not more than a consolation goal.
Philippines vs Syria Prediction
The home team have not been able to turn things around since the start of this year and have been struggling to even get their names on the scoreboards, let alone clinch a win. It also needs saying that it has been well over nine months since the hosts last tasted success on the global stage.
Additionally, Philippines have not been at their best in their own defensive third and have been at the receiving end of nine goals from their last four games alone.
Although Syria have not been a force to reckon with in their respective clashes either, it needs saying that the hosts are a much more inferior and less experienced side in comparison. Considering that the home team have not registered a win against this foe in their previous two meetings either, Syria are sizing up to be the favorites to come away with the win at the end of the ninety minutes.
The teams have so far scored eighteen goals between them from their last two clashes alone, with the visitors contributing the major share. Taking into account that Syria also found the back of the net thrice in their most recent outing against Palestine, expect the away side to win and to rack up the goals tally by all means on Thursday.
