Pescara vs Sassuolo
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 22 January 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Adriatico – Giovanni Cornacchia (Pescara).
Two struggling sides will meet on Sunday afternoon in a desperate search for points. The last meeting between Sassuolo and Pescara ended on a sour note for the Neroverdi, who ended up winning the game but losing nonetheless. That was due to an administrative error by Eusebio Di Francesco’s side and fielding an ineligible player, which saw their 2-1 win converted into a default 3-0 win in favor of Pescara.
Unfortunately for the Delfini, that is still their only win all season. They come into this game at the bottom of the table. Even Crotone sits ahead of them based on a slightly better goal differential and with a measly nine points, they are looking like definite candidates to be featuring in Serie B next term.
Sassuolo have had nothing short of a disappointing term. The Neroverdi have been on a steady upward trend since bursting on the Serie A scene in 2013. Last term, they shocked the league by earning sixth spot and qualifying for the Europa League. But this campaign has been frustrating. Injuries have complicated things and the exertions of featuring on two fronts have stretched an already-thin squad to the limit. They’re out of the Europa League after finishing last in their group and their Coppa Italia campaign is over, too.
As the only team to “lose” to Pescara, that will not sit well with Sassuolo and they will be loath to allow it to happen twice – especially after having their Coppa Italia campaign end earlier this week.

Pescara vs Sassuolo: Prediction
This is a must-win for Sassuolo, who lost to Serie B side Cesena in the Coppa Italia. Although they are not doing well in the league, the Neroverdi now consider themselves a top tier side (having been in Serie A since 2013) and surely losing to the Sea Horses will have been another bitter blow in a miserable season.
They have a comfortable gap between themselves and the bottom three, but can certainly rebound after their midweek defeat with a much needed victory here. Pescara have earned a measly four points from their last 18 home games and may rattle them a bit but the Neroverdi should get all three points here.
